Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching

The Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) is the highest recognition that a kindergarten through 12th-grade mathematics or science teacher may receive for outstanding teaching in the United States.  Winners receive a paid trip to Washington, D.C., and a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation.

For more than 10 years, and with $3.0 million in awarded grants, ING Unsung Heroes has proven to be an A+ program with educators.  The program’s “alumni” have inspired success in the classroom and impacted countless numbers of students.  Each year, 100 educators are selected to receive $2,000 to help fund their innovative class projects.  Three of those are chosen to receive the top awards of an additional $5,000, $10,000 and $25,000.

The World of 7 Billion Video Contest

Did you know that the world population is set to hit seven billion people by the end of 2011? The World of 7 Billion would like to challenge all high school students to create a 30-second video public service announcement (PSA) that illustrates the impacts of a large and growing human population as it relates to one of the following: Energy, Water, Land Use, Public Health, or Economics.

Real World Design Challenge

The Real World Design Challenge (RWDC) is an annual competition that provides high school students, grades 9-12, the opportunity to work on real world engineering challenges in a team environment. Each year, student teams will be asked to address a challenge that confronts our nation's leading industries.The Real World Design Challenge focuses on increasing the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) workforce. Every teacher that participates in the RWDC gets $1 million in professional engineering software along with training, curriculum materials, and access to mentors. Teams of 3-7 high school students use these resources to solve an engineering challenge that is currently faced by industry.

Target Field Trip Grant

Target will be awarding 5,000 grants of $700 each to schools for the upcoming school year. Teachers can use a grant to fund a school field trip that connects their curriculum to out-of-school experiences.
