T-STEM

The Texas Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (T-STEM) initiative offers a fundamental approach to empower teachers, inspire students, and advance the studies in these four fields. The public-private initiative of academies, professional development centers and networks is designed to improve instruction and academic performance in science and mathematics-related subjects at secondary schools.

Center for Ecoliteracy Seminars and Workshops

The Center for Ecoliteracy (CEL) conducts seminars and workshops on topics including sustainability education and CEL’s Smart by Nature: Schooling for Sustainability initiative. While most events take place in California, CEL attends national conferences as well.

Climate Change: Fitting the Pieces Together

This free, two-hour online course provides educators with the background information and resources they need to address some of the main concerns students have about climate change: Is climate change real, how do we know and how will it affect me? These basic questions form the outline of the course, which discusses the evidence for climate change, the scientific methods used to study climate, certainties and uncertainties in climate data and climate model predictions.

Facing the Future Professional Development and Consulting

Facing the Future offers workshops about global issues and sustainability for teachers. Workshops are held on an ongoing basis at educational conferences throughout the United States. They also offer online courses, with an option to receive credit. Their workshops and courses encourage teachers to build upon their teaching expertise and think creatively about how to integrate global issues, sustainability and community problem solving into their curriculum.

Wildlife Conservation Society Online Teacher Academy

The Wildlife Conservation Society has opportunities to help make wildlife and wild places come alive in the classroom.

Watersheds: Connecting Weather to the Environment

This free, two-hour online course provides an understanding of watersheds as the local environment in which people's actions and decisions play against the backdrop of daily and seasonal weather to affect the quality and health of the area in which they live, as well as the larger system of watersheds of which their watershed is one part.

New England Aquarium

The New England Aquarium in Boston, Massachusetts offers an array of professional development opportunities to teachers, including workshops, guided tours, in-service training and conferences. GIS Software Training

The ESRI GIS software company offers basic and professional training to further understand programs such as ArcExplorer and ArcView. The courses are geared towards a variety of interests from simply understanding software to creatively incorporating its tools into a classroom setting. Courses are offered online and occasionally in libraries and museums.

GLOBE Teacher Workshops

GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) is a worldwide hands-on, primary and secondary school-based education and science program. GLOBE promotes and supports students, teachers and scientists to collaborate on inquiry-based investigations of the environment.

Workshops are held nationwide. Restrictions may apply to some workshops.
