Experiments on Bronx school’s green roof taking students far

New York City, N.Y. — Last week, Elton Hollingsworth and Noel Cruz, both ninth-graders at the Bronx Design and Construction Academy, explained findings from an experiment they’ve been conducting on the school’s green roof—the first of its kind in a New York City public school—at the World Renewable Energy Forum.

Rachel Carson Sense of Wonder Contest

Great Lakes face stresses from run-off, invaders

Great Lakes shorelines are becoming clogged by algae blooms fed by agricultural run-off, while invasive mussels decimate the food chain in deeper waters, an environmental group said on Tuesday.

The Water Sourcebooks, developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, contain 324 interdisciplinary, hands-on activities on topics including Introduction to Water, Drinking Water and Wastewater Treatment, Surface Water Resources, Ground Water Resources, and Wetlands and Coastal Waters. The sourcebooks are divided into four sections based on grade level: K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12.
