Habitats Nature Scope Kit

DESCRIPTION

Habitats Nature Scope Kit offers environmental education for grades K-8 through a unique self-guided Activity Guide and supplemental modules. Habitats Nature Scope Kit was created by the National Wildlife Federation and is based on the award-winning Ranger Rick Nature Scope. All activities are designed to engage students in the creation of a Schoolyard Habitats site.

AUDIENCE / GRADE LEVEL

Habitats Nature Scope Kit focuses on grades K-8.

CONTENT AND TOPICS

Since students have a strong natural interest in wildlife, understanding and creating a wildlife habitat in their backyard or schoolyard is an effective way to create broader environmental knowledge.

Habitats Nature Scope Kit:
  • Improves science learning;
  • Comes with all materials pre-punched and individually wrapped and neatly organized into a 3-hole binder;
  • Teaches about wildlife habitats;
  • Can be used in conjunction with current school curriculum;
  • Has activities designed either to stand alone or to be part of a series of activities;
  • Is adaptable for the classroom, nature center, or home;
  • Meets environmental education quality standards and national science education standards

MATERIALS

Habitats Nature Scope Kit is packaged as a set of materials and supplemental modules. The actual kit contains an activity guide with comprehensive wildlife habitat background information and over a dozen hands-on interdisciplinary activities, a schoolyard habitats planning guide, tips for teaching in the outdoors, and a 3-ring binder for easy use. The supplemental modules focus on topics of endangered species, grasslands, and northern forests.

EDUCATOR FEEDBACK

Teachers have described the Habitats Nature Scope Kit as creative, unique, interdisciplinary and a great way for the entire school to learn about wildlife and habitat while creating a schoolyard habitat.

IMPLEMENTING THE PROGRAM
