Exploring Green Jobs on Planet Connect
Planet Connect, a site for teens interested in the environment, has a Career Center where individuals in a variety of careers are profiled. High school students can explore the day to day duties and education and training needed for jobs. The profiled individuals also share why they decided on a specific career, and advice they'd offer about environmental careers.
For a lesson students could be assigned a profile individually or in groups. Students could share what they learned through essays, oral presentations, or concept or timeline mapping. Prompts for students could include:
- How did this person determine their career? What factors were important? What factors will you consider when choosing your career?
- What kind of education is needed for a career? What kind of college degree? What kind of high school courses?
- What kind of advice does the profile person offer? Do you think it's good advice? Why or why not?
